Djokovic: ‘Everything Worked Perfectly For Me Today’

Novak Djokovic played a nearly flawless match on Thursday at the Belgrade Open, calling it the “ideal performance”. The World No. 1 needed just 56 minutes to defeat Federico Coria 6-1, 6-0.

“You won't always want to play like this, it's not always possible,” Djokovic said in press. “But I think this definitely helps me feel better on the court. I think everything worked perfectly for me today.”

Djokovic lost one game on his serve late in the first set, but then faced zero break points in the second set.

“It was the first time that I played against Coria and I tried to impose an aggressive style of tennis from the very beginning and not allow him to have too much time to play around,” Djokovic said. “I played a phenomenal second set, really flawless.”

The 34-year-old will take on Andrej Martin in the semi-finals after Martin defeated Dusan Lajovic 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Djokovic is especially excited to be playing in front of a home crowd after fans were permitted to attend mid-week. The Belgrade Open is the first event on the calendar without a bubble restricting player movement.

“For the first time since the tour restarted, we [have] had the ability to sleep at home and be free and not be constrained to the bubble environment, which is something that is so nice,” Djokovic said. “We kind of forgot what that feels like when you're traveling, and you're obliged to stay in your room, and then visit only tennis courts. It's OK maybe for a week or two, but if you do that over and over again, every week that you that you play, it wears you down mentally.”
