Shapovalov Recognised For Top 10 Breakthrough

Denis Shapovalov was recognised by the ATP on Thursday for cracking the Top 10 in the FedEx ATP Rankings for the first time this year. Shapovalov received an award at the Nitto ATP Finals, where he is an alternate this week.

“It’s definitely pretty special to be here,” Shapovalov said on Gael Monfils' Twitch stream earlier this week. “To be back here and actually witnessing it with the players and everything, it’s pretty special. It’s definitely something different.”

Shapovalov reached a career-high World No. 10 on 21 September following his run to the Internazionali BNL d’Italia semi-finals in Rome. The Canadian became the 19th left-hander to achieve the feat and just the fourth this century, joining Rafael Nadal, Fernando Verdasco and Jurgen Melzer.

The 21-year-old reached his first Grand Slam quarter-final at the US Open. The youngest player in the Top 20, he will finish at a career-high year-end No. 12.
