Rojer/Tecau Survive Tricky Dubai Opener

Defending champions Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau survived a tough opening round at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, beating in-form pairing Marcus Daniell and Dominic Inglot 6-3, 6-7(8), 10/7 on Wednesday.

The second seeds held two match points in the second-set tiebreak to advance, but were forced into a decisive Match Tie-break by the Open 13 Provence finalists before eventually sealing the win after 90 minutes. Rojer and Tecau move into the quarter-finals where they will meet the winners of the last match on Court 3, with Divij Sharan and Yuichi Sugita taking on Poland's Marcin Matkowski and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan.

Open 13 Provence champions Raven Klaasen and Michael Venus did not suffer the same fate as Daniell and Inglot in their opening match, beating Rohan Bopanna and Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-4, 3-6, 10/4 to reach the quarter-finals. Damir Dzumhur and Filip Krajinovic advanced to the semi-finals after receiving a walkover from opponents Richard Gasquet and Pierre-Hugues Herbert. Gasquet was forced to withdraw from the last-eight clash due to a left leg injury.
