On Wednesday, Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev will meet for a coveted spot in the US Open semi-finals. The stage doesn't get any bigger for the close friends and countrymen, who have been battling since they were kids in their native Russia.
We open the vault ahead of their third ATP Head2Head encounter, going back to 2016 when they met for the very first time as professionals. Both players were sitting outside the Top 100 when they clashed in the second round of the ATP Challenger Tour event in Budapest.
Medvedev would prevail 6-3, 6-2, en route to the semi-finals. It would not be long before he and Rublev splashed onto the scene on the ATP Tour, with both cracking the Top 50 of the FedEx ATP Rankings the following year.
