Garin Downs Cecchinato To Reach Munich Final

Cristian Garin advanced to his third ATP Tour championship match of the season on Saturday, defeating third seed Marco Cecchinato 6-2, 6-4 at the BMW Open by FWU.

The Chilean added to final appearances in Sao Paulo (l. to Pella) and Houston (d. Ruud) after 72 minutes, saving both break points he faced en route to victory. Garin has enjoyed a breakthrough year on the ATP Tour, notching 18 victories from 24 tour-level matches. Prior to this year, the 22 year-old owned one ATP Tour main draw win.

One day after saving two match points to claim the biggest win of his career against World No. 3 and two-time defending champion Alexander Zverev, Garin kept his composure to confirm his place in the final after two rain delays in the second set. The World No. 47 will meet Roberto Bautista Agut or Matteo Berrettini in the championship match. Garin has never met either player on the ATP Tour.

Bautista Agut and Berrettini enter the second semi-final in Munich locked at 1-1 in their FedEx ATP Head2Head series. Berrettini defeated the Spaniard to claim his maiden tour-level trophy in Gstaad last year, before Bautista Agut levelled their record at this year's Qatar ExxonMobil Open.
